چکیده

Sir, the rabies vaccination is the best method for prevention of rabies, a deadly neurological infection. The problem of missed appointment of rabies vaccination is common and becomes an important concern in tropical neurology. Here, the authors would like to share the experience on another important problem in clinical practice in maintenance of rabies vaccination schedule. The authors review the medical records of 250 booster dosages of rabies vaccination in our center in year 2013. Of overall 250 dosages, 230 were administered by intramuscular injection while the left 20 were administered by intradermal injection. However, when tracing back it can be seen that “incorrect administration method” can be seen in 11 cases (4.4%). All detected cases were missed from intradermal administration to intramuscular administration. Since the administration of rabies vaccine can be by either intramuscular or intradermal injection, the practitioner, in charge nurse, can be easily miss administration and this can be problematic in prevention of disease. To provide knowledge to increase awareness of practitioner is required.

Decision-based evaluation of recommendations for preexposure rabies vaccination.

P reexposure rabies vaccination is recommended for individuals who are more likely to be exposed to rabies virus than the general public. 1 This vaccination series consists of 3 doses of vaccine administered IM or intradermally (ID), which permits postexposure vaccination to consist of 3 doses of vaccine rather than 5 and eliminates the need for postexposure administration of human rabies immun...

Three-year experience with 4-site intradermal booster vaccination with rabies vaccine for postexposure prophylaxis.

For booster vaccination of previously immunized persons with potential exposure to rabies, the World Health Organization recommends 2 doses of cell-culture vaccine administered intramuscularly or intradermally on days 0 and 3. We believe that four 0.1-mL intradermal booster doses given on a single day could be used at no risk to the recipient. We studied use of a single booster vaccination on d...

Vaccination against rabies and protective antibodies - comparison of ELISA and fluorescent antibody virus neutralization (FAVN) assays

The aim of the study was monitoring the efficacy of primary vaccination against rabies and the need for booster doses. These studies validate at the same time recent technological improvements in laboratory diagnostics of the level of rabies protection in human sera. Research was carried out into the level of antibodies, considering that an antibody titer ≥0.5 IU/mL is protective. We used Plate...
